Westerbork is located in the north eastern part of Holland about 30 min away from a town called Assen. I stayed in Assen when I went to visit the transit camp. Not all camps were concentration camps where people were put to death. This particular one was considered a transit camp first, then a detention camp. As far as I could find, none of the people that were transported to Westerbork stayed very long. Westerbork was just the starting point that led prisoners/detainees to other camps such as Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, Theresien etc.
NOTE: I know this is hard to see, but once you click to see more, there will be a link “Click here to see videos and gallery”. This part actually expands so you can see photos, videos and other documents related to this particular post. Sorry it’s not as visible as I’d like. It is something I will have to look at changing in the future. Unfortunately, you can only upload one photo/document/video at a time.
